Burning Man 2009

Looking back, the real jumping-off point for the life I lead today was Burning Man 2009, Evolution. During my early 20’s I was still figuring a lot of shit out, aided in part by a lot of chemical experimentation. That phase opened me up to chasing all sorts of different experiences: music, festivals, nature, outdoor adventures, any hobby that would grab me in a chokehold and pull me in a positive direction.

I’d been going to festivals for a few years and kept hearing about this one called Burning Man. People told me it would change your life. That it was like going home.

It took me a couple attempts to not be a complete spectator and instead be a full participant, but holy cow—this place blew me away. The creativity, the eclectic mix of people, and just the overall vibes of a complete city built by the most creative people in the world… only to be quickly burnt to the fucking ground. It was a place to be whatever you wanted to be. Total freedom of expression.

I’ve been three times, and I still don’t know if I’d consider myself a burner. But my experiences there definitely made me into who I am today.

Looking thrilled as I head out from my Mom’s place
At the entrance
Hoards of people coming home
Not the best set up. That tent got murdered by the wind.
Early morning at the man
Just some art at the main communal tent
A fun place to chill and watch some interesting acts
Big ass boom box
Thunderdome. I didn’t have the balls. Fun to watch though
The Man burns
